new york

i'm finally getting around to reading thurston moore and byron coley's "no wave" book, and it's an epic trip through the short life of no wave. the photos capture all that grime and filth that makes late 70's/early 80's manhattan so appealing. pick it up here.

starting where the book leaves off, in 1980, comes jill kroesen's single on lust/unlust.

jill kroesen - i really want to bomb you
jill kroesen - jesus song

a video by jill for a track from her full length:

and finally, the pulse of new york compilation.

i was lucky enough to pick up the original for a modest price this weekend. it's also been (perhaps unofficially) reissued. full of minimal wave/no wave/skronky funk goodness. as far as i can tell, xex is the only band on here to put out any records other than appearing on this comp. get it here or here.
